CCP/Everyone: The following is going to be critical. It's supposed to be. It's feedback. It might be a little flamey, but I've really felt no change except for UI elements since I've played CQ on the test server. I love the patch, but there are some serious flaws in it that I hope you will address. I have seen some wonderful suggestions for this game that I think you really take into account. So again, I love the hard work you've done, I just think you should have thought about it a little more and polished it A LOT before release...

Well, I don't mind the eye candy. I miss the ship spinning but that's okay.
The entire thing that really ruins the experience for me is the fact that movement, just sucks. I can't exactly remember if I've said this somewhere else but I know I've been thinking it since CQ hit the test sever. Buy your Devs some first and third person shooters so they can learn what movement is supposed to be like. I mean... really CCP? I'm not allowed to 'strafe' while holding down the camera button to look around? Is there anyone in your office that plays other games?
The problem I'm thinking you are having trouble trying to understand, is CQ and the rest of EVE online are two distinct, but separate games. The only connection they share, is the background story, and the ability to change things in the "Space" portion of it from the CQ portion of it.
As soon as someone "leaves" that pod, you have now entered Unreal Dress up in Space sans the shooting. I'm not going to claim I know what other games people play. But judging from the posts I've skimmed over in this thread, a lot of people here at least play (or have played) either a third, or first person shooter. That means for us, camera movement is awkward. It's like I've been an Olympic athlete running Triathlons in other games, to being shot in the spine and becoming a paraplegic in this one.
The main point being is that movement in space, and movement in CQ are two totally different beasts. When you are in CQ, your WSAD keys are absolute. Nothing, and I mean, absolutely nothing should prevent movement. It does not matter if another window is open, or what not. As soon as I hit the W key, I expect my character to move forward. Period. The only exception to this rule, is when you are typing in a text input, for instance, The chat box. But as soon as I hit the enter key, focus should return to the character.
I for one am used to having to repeatedly press enter, or Y or U or some other key to bring focus to the chat box. If I want to search for something inside a hangar, I don't mind clicking on that search box to type in it. But as soon as I hit enter after text is entered, I expect to see the focus return to the character, not remain in the box.
Bleh. I guess I'm just complaing, seeing as I have an extensive MMO background. When I have a character that walks around, I expect the feel of other MMO's. I know this isn't wow, but consider that WoW had camera and movement down to a science. Making Roid belts suffer one rock at a time! |
